We just came back from 7 days abroad spent at Seagull resort in Hurghada, Egypt – and I’m here to tell you all about it!
Let me start with the fact that it’s a four star hotel. If you’re someone that’s used to five star hotels and you’re not flexible, then I suggest we just end it here – this hotel is definitely not for you. But, if you’re someone who can cope with some disadvantages or maybe is open to alternatives, then keep on reading, you’ll be surprised!
Amazing Location: Sheraton
Yes, this was the main reason we booked a room at Seagull hotel: the location – Sheraton road. This placed us in a walking distance from our favorite restaurants, shops and marina.
We previously went to Bella Vista hotel, which wasn’t bad either. Location wise, these hotels are kind of next to each other, so I was familiar with the area and I didn’t think twice.
If you’re also someone who enjoys dining outside the resorts and is keen on experiencing the local culture, then this hotel is perfect for just that!
If you’re going to book a room at Seagull, then consider dining in these spots:
- Charly’s hot stone steak: for a perfect steak;
- El Dar Darak: for local cuisine;
- Al Sheraa Fish: delicious mussels and perfectly cooked fresh fish;
- Luca’s: for English menu and a great view
Try to avoid the so called Italian restaurant, right across the street: Pizza Roma. If you want pasta, then those are just fine. But if you’re craving for pizza, in now way is that related to what you are used to calling “pizza”. Save your money.
Room Comfort and Sleep Quality
I hope you’re not expecting me to tell you that the room was fabulous – because it was not. But, I can say it was decent.
The bathroom was larger than I ever expected, the dressing was small-ish, the bed wasn’t that comfy and the pillows were like concrete rocks – I never slept on those.
What was actually frustrating was hearing the neighbors. The doors were not soundproofed and the tourists were loud. The balconies were basically next to each other and I did have sleepless nights. Sometimes, I would sleep at noon, just because I’d wake up in the middle of the night, because of either screams, laughs or just plain loud talking.
When we got the room, I checked the seif: it wasn’t working. They had to replace that, which they did.
The dressing doors were a pain to open – they wouldn’t properly slide.
The shower door looked like it had mold, not cleaned since forever.
The hair dryer didn’t work. I found that out when I needed to use it.
I just stopped complaining at one point, It was all too exhausting.
The room, I would rate a solid 6, maybe 6.8, but the sleep quality – I would rather not rate that at all. The advice I always give, but rarely take: earplugs, use them!
Family and Amenities
It’s perfect if you’re looking to spend your holiday in a budget friendly hotel, with your family. Not that great if you’re looking for something more single-adult friendly.
Seagull resort has actually two receptions, because it’s basically two hotels: the old Seagull and the new Seagull hotel. The old part of the resort is quiet, while all the entertainment happens in the new resort:
The Dual-Beach Setup: The resort owns two distinct private sandy beaches. The beach we stayed at is explicitly tailored for quiet relaxation, while the other serves as the central hub for high-energy water sports, music, and social animation teams. There’s also enough sunbeds for everyone, since I noticed the vast majority of tourists use the pools. We always found lots of free sunbeds, even after 12:00. Oh, and no noticeable low tides!
Water Parks & Pools: there’s an Aqua Park with temperature-controlled pools, hosting 3 major water slides for adults and 8 dedicated slides for children. Thinking of bringing your kids? They’ll probably have a blast there!
Recreation & Sports: you have free access to water gymnastics and water polo on the beach. On-site tennis courts, squash/racquetball courts, billiards, and a fully equipped fitness center are also available.
Family Amenities: Alongside the kids’ water park, Seagull is one of the few resorts in Hurghada to feature an on-site mini-zoo, a supervised kids’ club, and a playground. I wouldn’t call that a zoo, but it’s something to keep the kids occupied.
At night, the animation team hosts live performances at the amphitheater, and an on-site nightclub/disco.
Now, all that I have mentioned, are mostly in the new Seagull hotel. During those 7 days I stayed there, not one single staff member advertised the entertainment there. If you go to the resort blindly, and are checked in the old hotel, then you’ll have no idea that: there are two hotel areas, and that all the entertainment happens in the new section of the hotel. There’s a map on the beach – that’s how we found out. I’m posting it here.
Food: Are you ready to dine outside?
Alert! Subjective review! The food tasted poorly and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful towards people that enjoyed the food there, but for me, I disliked it. Totally disliked it.
During our stay there, we dined outside the resort. I only had coffee for breakfast there and some pastry. I tasted the food several times during lunch and dinner, but I didn’t find anything that would make me want more.
I tried the meat: beef, chicken, lamb and turkey. Didn’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the spices – I love those. It was the actual meat that felt like low quality, the meat taste.
The salads – also not my cup of tea. Tried several: they were either too runny (like their tzatziki) or very consistent. Even the onion had a bitter taste and I’m not sure why.
Tried desserts, too. They had a vague flavor of what they were supposed to be. Lots of jelly, syrup coated and that was about it. They looked spectacular, but the taste was missing.
If you’re not that picky when it comes to food, then I’d say you’re ok. I did find some food during the themed nights, which I thought was ok. For someone who doesn’t eat burgers, I actually enjoyed one. And their kofta was nice. I survived to tell the story. So will you!
