Skigyimes Alpine Coaster in Romania

If you’re thinking you’ve seen it all in Romania, then that means you haven’t reached Skigyimes alpine coaster.

The rural side of Romania is something that needs to be explored by everyone, especially the Northern side, in the mountains. You will find some amazing things to visit, see and simply be speechless.

Nature has never been more generous than in Romania. It’s one thing to see it and another one to express it in words. After this trip we made in Romania, we can say that we actually have no words to express what we saw.

Harghita County in Romania is a fairy tale. You’re actually living the dream! It’s a place of calmness and beautiful landscapes that shape each man’s soul: generous and brave! It’s a place of joy, where traditions are safely kept, a place where your feet can touch the green grass and a place where you can be. Simply just be!

This place is located in Lunca de Sus, Romania, and it’s an abundance of adrenaline, in harghita County. We first saw this place on a local traveler’s Facebook page and were stunned by the lovely countryside scenery. Then, when we actually saw what the place was famous about, we added it to our places to visit this year. And so we did!

We had no idea what to expect from this place, except a few photos we saw online. But, there we were, in July 2020, in a remote location, barely any cell signal, located in a green painting of tall trees and fresh cut grass.

What is Skigyimes Alpine Coaster Famous for?

Skigyimes coaster is actually placed on a wonderful meadow, where you can enjoy the fascinating horizon. We have never quite seen how beautiful the rural side of Romania can be. But if you know where to look, you will find it hard to depart.

Although we arrived on a warm day of summer, it’s also to be noted that the place has also a ski slope which can be thrilling in the winter time. The slopes aren’t that abrupt from what we’ve seen, so they can be perfect for both beginners and intermediate skiers.

Depending on your time of arrival, the line for the tickets can be either short or long. But it’s not a long wait, and totally worth it! We paid for our tickets in actually less than 5 minutes and waited for maybe another 10 (or less) to hop aboard. The price for adults is 15 lei (close to 3 EUR) per ride and 12 lei per child.

What Should You Know Before Taking Your First Ride at Skigyimes

When you first take a shot at it, you’re kind of scared, since you don’t know what to expect from it. Is it safe? Can I go full speed? Will it break? Will I be hurt in any way? The answer is it’s safe and great!

Once you take a seat in the bob, there’s a man there that fastens your seat belt. He also explains to you that the seat belt cannot be opened while you’re moving. You can try, but it won’t open.

Another thing that would have been nice to know is that the breaks don’t work and you cannot accelerate before you reach the top of the slope. And yes, that it automatically stops once you’re there.

It stops at the top of the slope to give time to the person in front of you to depart. So you won’t hit anyone. If you hit anyone, it’s your fault. If someone hits you, it’s his fault. The rule is if you get hit from behind, it’s not your fault.

Why would it have been nice to know that it stops abruptly at the top? Well, when I tried to film the ride, once I got to the top of the slope, the bob stopped and I was a bit shaken and dropped the phone. Mind you, the seat belt could not be opened! So, I had to grab it with my purse (don’t ask!). Also, the ones behind me could not stop, so they were hitting my bob. But that’s ok, the second ride I took I lost my glasses. Same spot, same problem 🙂

If you like the rush of adrenaline poring through your veins, then this will surely delight you!

You can go full speed on the bob slope. Yes, that means you don’t have to use the breaks anytime. And no, you won’t fall. Although you might be a bit reluctant first, once your speed increases, you’ll simply just want more!
